Artisan “filters
“This told us how powerful partisan filters can be for just interpreting obvious facts.
It’s not really filters – it’s the constellation of conceptualisations that amounts to our perception that information is filtered. Specifically, the “facts” are generally not obvious at all, and of course, cannot be in a case like this. The only “obvious facts” we may in general have at our disposal are the live perception that we are in our living room, for instance.
We can take the perception that “powerful partisan filters” are at work to be the surprise we still experience when (not) considering the the world view of the other party. The same applies to the Brexit situation where really only fantastic arrogance on the part of the English explains their behavior, a country that had nothing but the City. Yet from their own point of view it is not arrogance from which they are coming, but the plain wish to be free(d).
Such is the Great Confusion of the concepts of Freedom and Self-Determination (which is to say Dictatorial Domination) so “obvious” when people seem united in their revolution.
The deafening silence from Republican senators, however, can quite obviously be taken as a sign that they are not comfortable with the situation, especially as it is clearly hermeneutic, i.e. snowballing toward an avalanche.
